What is a Weird Writer?

A Weird Writer is a new breed of author in American literature. Weird Writers are not necessarily insane, although a little eccentricity can be a plus. Fewer than 25 American authors currently qualify as a Weird Writer but they all have one thing in common; their names appear on hardback books in a unique collection known to millions as the Weird US series. These writers are more than just authors, they are also researchers in their respective states and always on the prowl for the bizarre or offbeat, from roadside oddities to unexplained phenomena.

Although there is no single recipe for the making of a Weird Writer,
they are generally fizzy concoctions made from a special blend of
historian, anomalist, parapsychologist, ufologist, cryptozoologist, and explorer, with a healthy dash of folklorist thrown in for good measure. They are truly the discoverers, presenters, and documenters of America's weirdness.

Most Weird Writers are authors of other books or magazine articles, and many have contributed to other weird publications such as Weird US and Weird Hauntings. Weird Writers are frequently featured on radio and television shows across the country.

It is estimated that collectively, with over a million books in the Weird series sold, that Weird Writers have one of the largest followings of readers in America. Weird Writers recognize that it is the readers who have made the Weird books a success, as well as fans and generous specialists who have contributed stories to each writer.

To qualify for membership in the Grand Order of Weird Writers, an author must have written or co-written a state book within the Weird series. Each member author is issued a certificate attesting to his or her membership in the order. Weird Writers, depending on their schedules, are available for book signings and other appearances.
